    The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team capped off their rollercoaster season with a third place finish at last week’s state tournament in Spokane, ending the year on a high note. The Mules reached the semifinals after a gritty 62-49 win over Winlock in the fifth meeting between the teams this season.     Julie Anne Chamberlain was born on February 17, 1948 in Longview, Wash., to Russell and Connie Gorman. She passed away on February 28, 2013, in Bend, Ore., after living with MS for over 40 years. In July of 2012 when the Columbia View Care Center closed Julie moved to Bend Ore. to live near her sister, Becky.  Julie was a lifelong resident of Cathlamet and graduated from Wahkiakum High School as co-Valedictorian in 1966 and attended Washington State University on a full scholarship.     Last Wednesday, the newly formed Rock ‘n Roll Congress held their first Open Mic Night for all ages at the Pioneer Church. The event began at 5 p.m. and what followed was a showcase of local talent, veterans and youth. Several high school students played guitars and sang. For many of them, it was a first time.     Wahkiakum High School students next week will conduct a drive fund to raise funds for Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland. The students will sell wrist bands, Doernbecher Dolly logo heads, and root beer floats.     The children of Mary Jacobson held a 90th birthday celebration for their mother on February 17 at the Monticello Hotel in Longview. Seventy-five family and friends attended the gathering.     A group of Washington based gillnetters has sued the state Fish and Wildlife Commission to overturn regulations that would move gillnetters off the main stem of the Columbia River and sway salmon allocations further in favor of recreation anglers.
