Before a big crowd at Mark Morris High School on Saturday, the Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team showed why they were the number one ranked 2B team in the state, overwhelming the Rainier 74-13 Lady Mountaineers in regional basketball tournament play. The Naselle Comets boys basketball team traveled to Ellensburg for a regional game on Saturday to face Sunnyside Christian, the number one 1B seed in the state. The Comets lost 57-39. Wahkiakum alum Peyton Souvenir, a sophomore guard for the Lewis and Clark State College women's basketball team, was slowed down but not stopped by some knee issues this season. She missed a bit of preseason training and some early games but after cortisone shots, special knee braces, and intense and ongoing physical therapy, Souvenir is working on finding her groove again.
