Cecelia Jean Cooper, 84, of Cathlamet, died February 16, 2018 at the Longview Hospice Center. She was born January 29, 1934 in Los Angeles, Calif., to Paul and Leota Brennan, the oldest of three children. Together we acknowledge and share our joy in the gift that her life was to us and her beloved friends, and the pain that her passing brings. The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team is guaranteed a spot in the 2018 State B tournament in Spokane next week, but right now they are more focused on getting a win against White Swan in regional play on Friday. The Naselle Comets boys basketball team lost to Taholah 68-58 for a second place district finish on Saturday. Neck and neck for most of the game, the Comets were up by one at the end of the third quarter. That’s when Taholah got hot, pouring in 26 points for Naselle’s 15 in the fourth. The loss sends Naselle into a loser out regional match with Pateros on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mark Morris High School. This is the Wahkiakum Mule's wrestling team's third year of attending the Chuck Bullard tournament at the Tacoma Dome. This year's results: Niko Hawke ended up out with a concussion; Laine Snead took fifth; Frankie Mendez took second; Ava Mendez took fifth; Sawyer Peek took eighth; Makayla Davis took fourth; McKenna Mendez took fourth and Cayden Mendez took eighth. Down by 20 in the third quarter? So what! The Lady Mules come back to beat White Swan 63-56 in regional play Friday afternoon. White Swan had a 22 point lead late in the third quarter, but the Mules caught fire on offense and tightened up their defense to claim the victory.
