Wahkiakum County Port District 1 Board of Commissioners met last Thursday to discuss the Johnson House, County Line Park and a few other matters. There are only a couple days left to get in on a Kickstarter project started by a band that calls Cathlamet home for a few seasons between cross country tours to promote their music. You may have caught the couple's act at River Mile 38 Brewery or at the Skamokawa Grange. Two individuals involved in the burglary at Skamokawa General Store on August 14, 2019, pled guilty to charges in court in recent months. Jacob Childers, 18, represented by attorney Mark Baum, pled guilty to a felony offense, Burglary in the Second Degree, before Judge Heidi Heywood in Superior Court on November 25, 2019. The conviction carried a 1-3 month sentence, and Childers, who had already served two months, was released. HALF AND HALF--As this week began, we had sort of a gray but dry start, but by mid-afternoon Sunday, the rain started to fall pretty heavily and along with some wind, made for quite the racket on the windows around my place. Thankfully this dark soaker didn't last too long and we got back to some sunshine, but we're definitely doing the "half and half" routine around here. Oneida Road As a relatively new person to the county by local standards, it has been my pleasure to travel the different roads in the area. April 18, 1929-January 17, 2020 Clark W. Hutcheson, 90, of Longview, passed away Friday at Canterbury Inn after living with Parkinson's for 15 years. Clark was born April 18, 1929 in Ouachita, Arkansas to Mart and Edrie (Seale) Hutcheson. He graduated from Sparkman High School, Sparkman, Arkansas in 1947 and moved to Longview in 1948. Ray Bauer was born July 24, 1931, in Portland, Ore., to Otto and Miriam Bauer and passed away February 10, 2020, in Longview. Ray lived in Cedar Mills, Ore., until he was 14 and the family moved to Puget Island. Ray married Wilma Petersen in 1951 and had two daughters, Betti and Linda. Ray worked for the Department of Fisheries, and the family moved quite often. A youth volleyball program will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:45-7 p.m., beginning Tuesday, March 3 and running through Thursday, April 2.
