Lower Columbia College has announced that Monica Drake will be featured at the February 28 Northwest Voices event in Longview. First, Drake will conduct a writing workshop from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in Main 145 on the Lower Columbia College campus. From 7:00-8:00 p.m., she will hold a reading at the Longview Public Library. Grand Champion Paragon's Sainted Obsidian of Rysheron won Best Irish Wolfhound at the Westminster Kennel Club Show on Monday morning and got his moment of fame appearing on national television with the Hound Group winners on Monday evening. Obsidian's owner/breeder is Jayney Roskamp of Portland, and his mother was Misty Rivers Delthaugh, who came from Howard and Judy Brawn's Misty River Irish Wolfhounds of Puget Island. La Niña conditions that were a big driver behind colder and wetter weather in the Columbia Basin “are no longer present” — at least over the Pacific Ocean, according to a monthly report issued February 9 by the NOAA Climate Prediction Center.
