It certainly looks like spring is on its way. Trees are budding out, the daffodils are already blooming in my yard, the frogs are singing, and I have even seen a hummingbird this morning, in this gorgeous sunshine. Wahkiakum Youth Baseball will be holding sign ups on February 17 from 6-7 p.m. and again on February 24 from 5-6:30 p.m. in the JA Wendt Multipurpose Room. Sign up sheets will be sent home from school starting the week of February 15. The season will kick off with the Skills Day at the Wahkiakum Baseball Fields on March 13, from 1-3 p.m. Free hot dogs and pop will be provided to all participants. On February 19 from 1-4 p.m., the Cathlamet Woman's Club will be holding a pie social in the building adjacent to the Cathlamet Market. This is an annual fund raising event for the Woman's Club, supporting community services. All funds go back to the community. Again this year, the Wahkiakum County 4-H program will be involved and they will receive a portion of the funds raised. Pies will be made by volunteers, including members of 4-H. Karen Bertroch, non-profit trainer, will be teaching a Grantwriting Class at Grays Harbor College in Ilwaco, on February 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bertroch has taught this course in the Lower Columbia region for several years and will cover grantwriting from research to contracting and reporting.
