The Wahkiakum Lady Mule basketball team came up short last weekend in games with two Central League basketball teams. On Friday, the Mules kept up with the second ranked Napavine Tigers for the first half, trailing only 28-23 at halftime. The Tigers took control in the third quarter, scoring on offense and forcing Mule turnovers that led to more baskets. The visitors led 41-31 after three quarters and outscored the Mules 19-8 down the stretch. Maya Stanley led the Mule scoring with 10 points. Brieanna Olsen had eight, Sam Boyce seven, Brianne...
The Mules trailed 8-7 early on against Morton-White Pass Tuesday night, but that was MWP’s only lead of the night as the Mules nonchalantly rolled to a 63-44 victory over the visiting Timberwolves in the Mules' final home game of the season. The Mules had a balanced night of scoring as Lars Blix (13), Wyatt Parker (10), and Chris Bilgic (10) all cracked double digits and John Chambers, Yannik Kruetter, and Brett Chaput netted eight apiece. The Mules’ zone defense didn’t force many turnovers but did do a good job of limiting shot attempts from...
ONCE AGAIN--It seems like only yesterday we were beginning the first month of a new year, but lo and behold, here we are in the second month already. So, how are you doing with those new year resolutions? I hope you're having better luck than me, as it seems the snow, the freezing, the rain and a bug have slowed me down and I've just been spinning my wheels when it comes to plans that need to be worked on, but hopefully I'll kick things in high gear this month or at least that's my newest resolution if I ever get to feeling better! While we...

Members of Cathlamet's town council discussed the need to replace intake pumps at the town's water treatment plant when the council convened January 25 to hold a meeting postponed from January 17 because of bad weather. In other business, council members approved a three year lease for new quarters for the town clerks' office. Public Works Superintendent David Vik asked the council to consider amending the 2013 budget to permit replacement of pumps at the town water plant. The project should cost no more than $16,000, he said. Councilmember...
As Senate President Brad Owens announced that the same gender marriage bill, ESSB 6239, had passed, an anxious audience of hundreds watching attentively during tense floor debate erupted with applause. The bill, which had bipartisan support, passed in the Senate 28 to 21 late Feb. 1. The bill has already garnered enough support in the House after it moves through committees to pass and is expected to be on the governor’s desk early next week. “I think it’s one of the more powerful experiences of my life,” said Sen. Ace products will continue to be sold while supplies last, but the new selection will showcase nationally branded products, such as Sylvania Light Bulbs and Valspar paint. Wilson hopes this new relationship will help provide his customers with more choice and...
To The Eagle: After reading yesterday's Eagle and all the letters in there, I thought it was time for me to express my opinion also. I'm going to start by saying that all of us without exception on a daily basis break a rule or the law. A point I would like for our commissioners and Sheriff's department to consider in relationship to the property they are inheriting on Puget Island: There was a very good program on the agriculture station #345 RFD on Direct TV to do with what trade do the people who serve time in jail learn? The title of this p...
To The Eagle: When things fall apart on Monday morning, it's really great to have family and friends that are willing to come to your rescue! First off is when the telephone rang and it was my niece Carol Ann saying Doug had locked the keys in the car. The first thing you wonder is what do you do? So we called the Sheriff's Office to see if they had keys available and they did, so one of the deputies came down and made an attempt, but it didn't quite fit. So I called John and Bekalyn Zimmerman and John came over and worked at it and in the...

I’m starting this column on a very heartwarming note this week. Remember the little missing dog from the Hull Creek area? Well, Cindy and Rick Lahti are happy to announce that their precious Glory has come home after being missing for several weeks. It appears that she may have been picked up by someone because some of her hair had been cut. She may have had to travel some distance to make it back home as she was quite emaciated, but is recovering nicely. I love to tell happy stories. Welcome home, Glory, and I’m happy to see you back with you...
