The Chancers, an Irish band from Portland, were at the River Mile 38 Brewery in Cathlamet on Saturday to play at the Dust Off Yer Kilts event. They brought some traditional dancers with them. Though bookmarked by two losses, the Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team got their first league win in front of a cheering home crowd on Friday, beating Winlock 61-52. Ryan Quigley scored 20 points and pulled down five rebounds for the Mules. Joey Moore added 16 points and five more rebounds. Hank Ferguson had 10 points, eight rebounds and six steals. The Lady Mules basketball team traveled to three more towns and brought home three more wins last week while junior Peyton Souvenir continued to send her points per game average upward. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is seeking comments on two options for establishing a wild steelhead gene bank in rivers or streams near the mouth of the Columbia River. Both options under consideration by WDFW are designed to support the preservation of wild steelhead populations by prohibiting future releases of hatchery-raised steelhead into specific waters of the lower Columbia River Basin. Pruning your trees will control the size of the tree and improve fruit quality. Fruit trees should be pruned every year.
