  • Ferry repair underway

    Repair of the ferry Oscar B. is underway, Wahkiakum County Public Works Director Chuck Beyer said Tuesday. Beyer said shipyard managers told him the work should be completed in 7-10 days, or January 27 at the latest. The ferry went to a shipyard last week to install keel coolers for its generators. The previous sea well intake system had been plugging with debris during freshets. Beyer said US Coast Guard personnel had inspected the vessel in the shipyard and would inspect again once the repairs were finished....

    Earlier this week, the Hunters Heritage Council inducted Sen. Dean Takko, D-Longview, and Rep. Brian Blake, D-Aberdeen, into the Hunters Heritage Council Hall of Fame. This recognition was presented to the 19th Legislative District lawmakers by the Council’s president, Mark Pidgeon.     The Lady Mules suffered a setback last week with two losses in a row, but were able to turn things around on Tuesday in Pe Ell with a win. Last Wednesday at home, the Lady Mules faced the number two team in their league, the Toutle Lake Ducks, and lost 43-61. Peyton Souvenir led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds.     The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team turned up the heat in the final quarter in Friday's home game against the Adna Pirates, but it was just too late.     OLYMPIA—An executive order issued Jan. 6 by Gov. Jay Inslee intends to reduce suicides in the state by first analyzing data and laws concerning gun violence. The order takes a public-health approach to gun violence—an approach also used to prevent vehicular fatalities, which have steadily dropped since implementation of the state plan Target Zero. Between 2012 to 2014, 665 people died by firearms in Washington. Of those firearm fatalities, 520 were suicide, according to data from the Washington State Department of Health. Suicides are by “pe...
