The Tsuga Art Association is interested in expanding its membership. The association is a co-operative of local artists that encourages the artistic development of its members and affords them a place to display and sell their art work. The Hilander Pony Club will hold their 2015 Open Show Series at the Cowlitz County Expo Center in Longview on January 25 and February 22. Schooling rounds begin at 8 a.m. and the show starts at 9 a.m., with age divisions of 13 and under, 14-25 and 26 and over. There will be a daily high point award in each age division. On February 5 at 6 p.m., WSU Master Gardener Ted Cunningham will demonstrate the technique used when pruning fruit trees. Pruning trees will control the size of the tree and improve fruit quality. Fruit trees should be pruned every year. Proper pruning techniques reduce disease and promote greater fruit production. The Wahkiakum Mule girls basketball team picked up two more wins last week to bring their record to 8-0 in league and 10-0 overall. The regular season recommenced January 7 after a long Christmas break as the Mules faced Onalaska at home and won 65-36. The Loggers came within one in the second quarter but were never able to take advantage as the Mules easily outscored them 17-6 in the third quarter and 15-5 in the fourth.
