The Mules have hit a bump in the road this season after coming up short in all three of their games this past week. The team’s troubles began last Thursday night against the Mossyrock Vikings. After taking a 17-point lead into the half, 39-22, the Mules imploded in the third quarter, giving up a season-worst 29 points in the third quarter alone while managing just 11 points of their own. A tough fourth quarter saw the game deadlocked at 69 at the end of regulation, but in the extra frame the Mules could muster only a mere three points to M...
WILD ONE--Last weekend was a pretty crazy one, with thunder, heavy downpours, strong winds and even a sun break or two on Saturday but pretty much a foggy, rain fest on Sunday with tree limbs coming down and horrible visibility on the roads; a good time to stay indoors. While we didn't have any major problems here, many folks to the east and west of us did and thousands lost power. However, it was perfect football watching weather if you still had power! Now they'll be taking on the San Francisco 49'ers and the fun will really begin this...

Lia Sealund is looking forward to a little down time. After 11 years with the Wahkiakum Community Network (WCN), she is stepping down as Executive Director to take some time for herself and let newcomer Ginger Hake take the reins. WCN hired Sealund in 2003. It started out as a part time position but soon grew into full time work. The same thing happened with her part time job at the PUD. Before she knew it she was working 60 to 80 hours a week, committed to two jobs that brought her a lot of joy...

The current rate for the expiring levy is $2.75 per $...
Wahkiakum County commissioners agreed to fund restroom improvements at County Line Park when they met Tuesday. The county has leased the park to Port District 2 after Cowlitz County, which operated the park since its opening, wanted to shed operation of the park last fall. Port 2 began upgrading RV and overnight camping facilities, and when the port opened bids for restroom facilities, bids were well over the port's budget. On January 6, port officials wrote commissioners to request county support of the project. "Port 2 estimates the total...
Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is moving house. The move will occur before February 15, Chamber Director Ashley Turner announced at the group's meeting on January 14. The primary reasons for the decision to move were the high maintenance and heating costs associated with the JBH House and a desire...
To The Eagle: I’ve been a registered Democrat since Harry Truman. I thought Jimmy Carter was bad for the country, but he had high moral standards. But one thing Carter did: he did not lie or cheat the country. Now we’ve got a president who lies, cheats, and uses back door politics to gain his aims and/or agenda. Now on to another subject: the sewer lagoon. Let’s put the shoreline back like old. The city or marina doesn’t need more land. Olaf Thomason, Sr., Puget Island...
To The Eagle: It is my opinion that only those who have lived here for about 40 or 50 years, can really understand why we have so little faith in the "experts" that we are told to let handle things, like our white-tailed deer. Years ago, you would have been able to drive around a large amount of well kept farm land with over 200 white-tailed deer on it. The land owners kept the land in perfect shape so that their cattle and other critters thrived, which in turn, kept the deer population high. This land brought in tax money to our county. The...
