    It is hard to believe, but baseball season is almost here. In 2007, Wahkiakum Youth Baseball merged with Central Youth Baseball in Longview. Overall, the merger has proven positive with the details between the Wahkiakum organization and Central organization being worked out for the 2008 season. In order to get the season plans underway, Wahkiakum parents formed a local board which is actively planning the upcoming baseball season. Rachel’s Challenge is a program that began after Rachel Scott, a student at Columbine High School was murdered in what has become known as one of the worst mass murders in history. PUD water department supervisor Bill Chamberlain was present to give updates on the Western Wahkiakum Water System (WWWS) and the Puget Island Water System (PIWS). Conscious Fathering, a three hour class that concentrates on the basics of what infants need, equips men to meet the challenges of new fatherhood and to parent in partnership with mom.     Mules lose to Ducks, beat Vikings 77-44 The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team split in Central League games this week. Monday at undefeated Toutle Lake, the Mules had trouble with the Duck press and lost 62-44. The Mules made 29 turnovers, 13 in the first quarter which ended with the Ducks ahead 17-9.     The Wahkiakum Mule wrestling team competed this past weekend at the Castle Rock Invitational with seventeen schools and nearly 200 wrestlers. The Mules finished in 12th place and earned four medals. Medal winners for the Mules were Ben Miles (103 lbs), Kevin O’Connor (112 lbs), Jared McEntire (119 lbs), and Brady Johns (145 lbs).     The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) should soon decide whether or not Wahkiakum County residents will be eligible for federal disaster relief funds for the December 2 and 3 storm. County officials toured the county with FEMA officials this past week to sample damage to property and to plan local relief operations, if necessary.     Members of the citizen advisory board for the Wahkiakum Family Practice Clinic said this week they are preparing to make a contract offer to a Bothell doctor. The group has interviewed the doctor three times and is very impressed with her, said board member Sandi Benbrook-Rieder.
