In September of this year, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church received a makeover when four windows were replaced by 12 stained glass panels designed and hand crafted by member and Skamokawa resident Theresa Videan. Tillie Louise Kehrli, 87, of Cathlamet died on December 16, 2014 at St. John Medical Center in Longview. She was born in Pomeroy WA to Jack and Bertha (Parr) More on September 26, 1927.She moved to Cathlamet in1943 and in 1946 graduated from Wahkiakum High School. On Feb 15, 1948 Tillie married Casper Kehrli and he preceded her in 1999. From 1968-1979 Tillie was a clerk at Wahkiakum PUD. In November, Puget Island resident Paula Quigley won the 2014 American Paint Horse Association World Championships in the amateur category with her two-year-old mare, JWR Shez Got Bling. The event is held each year in Fort Worth, Texas at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Quigley got hooked on horses when she was young, learning to ride as a three year old on the back of her sister's horse. In high school, she started showing competitively. The Oregon Court of Appeals has upheld Clatsop County’s decision to deny a key permit for the Oregon Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) pipeline. In 2013, Oregon LNG challenged the county’s decision to deny the permit on the grounds of bias. Columbia Riverkeeper intervened on behalf of Clatsop County. Washington state's recycling rate fell slightly to 49 percent in 2013, but remains well above the national average, according to data reported December 29 by the Washington Department of Ecology. The 2013 rate was down from 50.1 percent in 2012. Nationally, the average recycling rate was 34.5 percent in 2012. The decline was driven by a 105,000-ton drop in the amount of material recycled by state residents in 2013, even as the total amount of material disposed grew by 88,000 tons. The Wahkiakum Mule girls basketball team joined seven other teams for a two tournament event in Napavine last weekend. On Friday the Mules faced a 2A team, the Olympic Trojans, and won, 54-43. The Mules returned to Napavine on Saturday to beat the 1A Zillah Leopards in overtime, 58-51, and won their tournament. Clam diggers can ring in the New Year by filling their buckets with razor clams during an eight-day opener beginning Dec. 31.
