  • Well wishes go out to injured trooper

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 18, 2010

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend, as did my husband and I. We enjoyed a couple of days with our kids, grandkids and little Ezekiel, our great grandson. He has really grown into quite the little personality in his eight months. Wow, time sure goes fast when you don’t see the little ones very often. News from Naselle: Our thoughts and prayers are with State Trooper Scott Johnson of Naselle after being shot this past weekend. I hear he will make a full recovery and the aut...

  • Seagulls and eagles come to Grays River

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 11, 2010

It certainly looks like spring is on its way. Trees are budding out, the daffodils are already blooming in my yard, the frogs are singing, and I have even seen a hummingbird this morning, in this gorgeous sunshine. Even though there was a light coat of frost on the ground earlier, it has warmed up to the point we have doors and windows open. It’s wonderful. News from Naselle: Two teams from Naselle-Grays River Valley high school competed in an ESD 113 regional knowledge bowl meet in Olympia on February 5. In all, 16 teams from 11 different 1B a...

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 4, 2010

This sure has been an odd winter so far. Definitely nicer than the past few years. My daffodils are already coming up and showing buds. The frogs are in full chorus every night and it seems earlier this year. By the time we go to press we will know who is the number one team in our league--Naselle or South Bend--as the tiebreaker will have been played on Tuesday. Thursday (today): high school girl’s basket...

  • Former Naselle student returns from volunteer work

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 31, 2009

Where did 2009 go? I can€™t believe it€™s almost 2010. That means we have lived here for 10 years, and it seems like we moved in yesterday. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Our household certainly did. We even got to visit with three of our former puppies. What a trip watching five big dogs wrestle and run in the fields. They are all related, as we have the mother, father and big brother, and they all seem to remember that this is where they came from. We also got a Christmas card fro...

  • Planning commission acquires new member

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 22, 2009

I don’t know about you but I still have a few things to do before the big day on Friday, so this column will be shorter than usual. We are expecting two of our sons and their girlfriends on Tuesday afternoon, as well as their puppies. We will be celebrating our son Don’s birthday a little late (it was the 16th), with his choice of what he wants to eat, and what kind of birthday cake I fix. It never changes, since he was quite young, his dinner has been hamburger stroganoff and German chocolate cake for dessert. It’s nice to be able to cook...

  • Weather in the news once again

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 25, 2009

Water, water everywhere. We knew it was coming; it was just a matter of when. We are now residing on our hill with lakefront property, probably for a couple more days, and we are the lucky ones. There are lots of logs and big trees with root wads floating in the Grays River and hopefully they will not be caught up on the bridges. News from Naselle: This community will say goodbye to one of the most gracious, most generous, and personable ladies to have lived her life in our community. Rose Elaine Johnson, known to most as “Rosie,” passed awa...

  • Seniors help library vision become reality

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Apr 23, 2009

More than a year ago, with about 50 boxes of library books, donated by the Friends of the Bend Library in Bend, Oregon, a huge project began to unfold in Rosburg. A public and free library for the west end of Wahkiakum County was envisioned by a few interested volunteers, as well as many residents. With a room available in the old Rosburg School, the blessing of the Johnson Park Advisory Board, and lots of work, it looks like this dream will become a reality in 2009. The community of Seaside, Ore. donated their old shelving units to the...

  • Commissioners address Extension, budget cuts at Rosburg meeting

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 1, 2007

Dan Cothren and Tom Doumit (George Trott was in Savannah, Georgia on County business) met with a pretty well informed crowd on Tuesday noon at the Rosburg Hall Senior Lunch program. The main issue on the agenda was the elimination of county funding for the WSU Extension office here in Wahkiakum County but other budget cuts were brought up as well. Carol Ervest, a Grays River Grange member and a 4-H leader for years, gave a brief history of how the Grange was instrumental in bringing the first Extension agent west of the Mississippi, here to...
