    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 15, 2010

Have you had a chance to trek through downtown Rosburg lately? If not, there is much activity at the site of the Rosburg Store, which will open again soon with new owners, Norman and Joyce Bolton of Rosburg. Sporting a new coat of light colored paint on the outside (thanks to Marlee Blain), new merchandise, walls and floors all spruced up, and lots of hard work from the whole Bolton Family, the Rosburg Store will once again be the central meeting place for the community. Norm took time to sit down and give me some details on the reopening of...

  • Meeting on use of biosolids Sept. 7

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 2, 2010

Well, I hope the farmers have their hay in, as it looks like some wet weather is ahead. The rain is quite welcome for gardens being watered by hand. News from Naselle: Today is the first day of the 2010-11 school year. Let’s support them in their efforts, praise them for doing a good job and let them know we still care even if they need a little coaching in certain subjects. Remember that there is no school on Monday, the 6th, in celebration of Labor Day. I had a very nice note from Lois Bighill regarding her brother, Dan Anderson, of Grays R...

  • Family to reopen Rosburg Store

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 26, 2010

Still strange weather for summer. One day you think summer missed us altogether and the next day or two it is definitely here. I am pleased to be able to let all the readers know that the Rosburg Store will reopen with new owners, though the date is yet to be determined. Norm and Joyce Bolton have purchased the property and will run it as a family business, with their daughter, Leslie and granddaughter, Cassie working in the store. I met with Norm and Joyce on Monday, and they told me that they will run the store much the same as it always has...

  • School registration starts this week

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 12, 2010

Two weeks already, since our home burned. We are settling in to our motorhome, making minor repairs, since it hasn’t been used in 10 years, and looking forward. Better than looking back I’d say. In my stupor last week, I neglected to thank some very important people, our volunteer fire departments. Thank you so much for all your efforts in trying to put out the fire and save our home. You were awesome. And another huge thank you to the Grays River Café for providing food for all the fire and EMS folks as well as our family. News fro...

  • Columnist gives thanks after house fire

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 5, 2010

Editor's Note: The house of columnist Trudy Fredrickson and her husband Delvin was destroyed last week by a chimney fire. See the story here for more details. Once again, I have to thank God for this wonderful place we live in and the awesome folks who live and love here. All I can say is thank you everyone who has offered us everything you can imagine after our house burned last Thursday. While some of you were reading my column about the Olson Family fire, my house was in flames and was a total loss. No one was hurt and all our animals were...

  • Family in need after devastating fire

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 29, 2010

News from Naselle: Mother Nature must be at least part Finn. What a great weekend in Naselle! The place was packed with activities and folks from everywhere. Many thanks to everyone, especially the volunteers, for another wonderful Finnish-American Folk Festival. On July 22, a group of 35 golfers met at Peninsula Golf Course in Long Beach for the Finnish-American Folk Festival’s biennial golf outing. According to Mike Swanson, “The golf course was in excellent condition and all the staff in the clubhouse were very helpful. Special kudos for...

  • Summer is finally here with FinnFest

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 22, 2010

Now that the days are a little warmer and the humidity is lower, we are about to tackle painting my husband’s 1959 Ford pickup. It seems like he has been waiting forever to finally get it done. Darrel Sotka has finally had enough dry days to get the hay baled in our fields, and even a few berries are beginning to ripen. Maybe that means summer is finally here. News from Naselle: It’s time for FinnFest once again. Lots of fun for the whole family, Finnish or not. This three-day event, held in even years, will take place on July 23 through Jul...

  • Naselle gets ready for Finn-Am Folk Festival

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 15, 2010

After another week of “kinda summer” it makes you remember why this is the most wonderful place to live. Even though my husband hasn’t yet been able to paint his ‘59 Ford pickup because of the humidity, things are also looking up for that project. I see much activity in the fields and gardens, so that is more good sign. Actually I love the rain but some sun is always welcome. News from Naselle: Activity is ramping up for the Finnish American Folk Festival in Naselle. The three day family friendly event will take place July 23 through July 25...

  • Monday is deadline for biosolids comments

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 8, 2010

It was a wonderful weekend despite the rain and unpredictable weather. With more than 20 family members staying for a few days, we were either cooking or playing, and had a few tents set up for extra sleeping quarters. It’s so nice to have this many family members in the same place at the same time. Lots of motorcycle riding, swimming, Frisbee golf, roasting marshmallows for s’mores, fireworks, and all the other fun things we enjoy, with 78 acres to enjoy it on. In addition to all the people we had six members of our dog family as well. New...

  • New high school ASB officers elected

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jun 24, 2010

Was Monday really the first day of summer? It felt more like June-uary. Tuesday has turned out to be a gorgeous day, but how long will that last? All day maybe? I’m wondering if the farmers will be able to get any hay in this year, as wet as it has been. Someone needs to give Mother Nature a hug, or something. News from Naselle: A few last minute items need to be posted now that school is out. The following students were chosen to represent their elementary grade classes as students of the month displaying the character trait of ...

  • FAFF concert brings back sock hops

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jun 17, 2010

School’s out, but where is summer? Only a few teaser days so far, so that must mean it will be a warm late summer, right? After our whirlwind weekend last weekend it was great to come home and just sit for a while. We attended a high school graduation in Redmond. Oregon on Friday night for our grandson and got up the next morning for the four hour drive to Ellensburg for the college graduation at 1:30 p.m. Lots of driving and lots of celebrating (not to mention, while in Oregon, we celebrated three birthdays as well). Time certainly does f...

  • Naselle's class of 2010 ready to move on

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jun 10, 2010

It is beginning to look like the warmer weather will be here sometime soon. The sun has actually shown a few days in a row, as well. I also see plants poking their heads up out of the gardens, so maybe, just maybe we will have a summer this year. News from Naselle: High school graduation! A whole new chapter in life for the class of 2010, after 13 years in school, muddling through all the pains and joys of growing up to this point, and now—where to from here? Just coming this far has been a huge accomplishment for many and we need to commend th...

  • Ceremonies honor outstanding students

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jun 3, 2010

As I sit here writing this column, I’m more than a little sore after a wonderful weekend with our kids in central Oregon and our oldest son and his family from California. On a whim we decided to try out our new rain gear and make the trip on the Harley. It worked out great except that my husband’s boots weren’t waterproof. Needless to say, wet, cold feet don’t make a guy very happy. After a five-hour ride, we arrived and began to enjoy the weekend. On Saturday we headed to Smith Rock for some hiking and four hours later we were all headed...

  • Graduation on the horizon

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 27, 2010

Is it ever going to be spring? It has been so cold; I’m surprised any gardens are growing. Some folks haven’t even planted yet. Hopefully it will warm up soon. News from Naselle: It’s hard to believe another school year is about to end. The kids that are graduating this year are the class that I volunteered in when we first moved here. This class has come a long way and we should be very proud of them. No matter what they choose to do, I wish them well, and much success. On that note, I have received a graduation invitation from one of those...

  • Martha Circle Tea made for lovely time

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 20, 2010

I’m sure everyone is aware that the iconic Rosburg Store is closed as of Monday, the 17th. The only information I have is that it will be closed indefinitely. What a gorgeous weekend. Now it looks like some more unwelcome rain and stormy weather is on the agenda for the rest of the week. News from Naselle: There will be a District track meet on Thursday at Raymond. Girl’s pole vault will start at 3:30 p.m. and the other events will follow. Go Comets! Are you looking for something fun to do on a weekend or two this summer? Hosts are needed at th...

  • Fashion and fun at Rosburg Hall Sunday

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 13, 2010

I hope everyone enjoyed the couple of days of sunshine we had last weekend, and that all the Moms had a wonderful day on Sunday. I had a wonderful weekend with some of our family in Oregon. The weather wasn’t the greatest but the company was. The weatherman says we may have some nice days this week, so I’m hoping to get the lawn mowed before it’s tall enough to make into hay. News from Naselle: The school year is winding down for this year with a little more than a month to go. Lots of last minute activities for many of our students, espec...

  • Naselle students get inventive in competition

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Apr 8, 2010

Spring? What’s going on here? Studded tires are supposed to come off on April 1 so we wake up to snow the next few days. Something’s wrong with this picture. This wasn’t the only place with bad weather for the Easter weekend, as we headed south to spend time with our family in California. It started snowing just out of Ashland, Ore. and got pretty scary in the Siskiyous. We made it through the snow, slush, wind and downright nasty stuff, just ahead of a 20-car pileup near Weed, Calif. We had a wonderful time with the family and headed home on M...

  • Smokey the Bear makes a visit

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Apr 1, 2010

  • Deadline to contact Ecology is Monday

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Mar 18, 2010

I had the pleasure of finding my first trillium of the year on the hill behind my house, and also my first butterfly of the season. It must mean that spring is really on the way. • Community Library now open Mon-Sat

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Mar 11, 2010

It’s certainly hard to figure out what Mother Nature has been trying to tell us for the last week or so. One day we have shirtsleeve weather and the next is snow flurries, lightning, thunder, hail, wind and long underwear. It looks like a not so nice forecast for the next few days. News from Naselle: It looks like Barb Swanson’s music class had a rare treat on February 26. Local musician, Wilho Saari brought his 16 string Kantele to introduce to the Elementary Music students. He played familiar melodies for them and allowed the students to ask...

  • Garage sale and bake sale this weekend

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 25, 2010

Can you believe the past couple of weeks and the magnificent weather we have had? Looks like that is about to come to an end this week as they are calling for rain once again. I guess we should be grateful for the mild weather we have had this winter, though. We have had the opportunity to see some interesting wildlife antics here on our property. Just the other day, I watched a heron try to land in our birch tree on a branch about 40 feet up. He made a big circle and attempted to land, only to fall all the way to the ground. He wasn’t hurt, b...
