Well, folks, we are now sitting on waterfront property once again. We could conceivably row straight across the field to the Covered Bridge but the current is such that it probably wouldn’t be such a good idea. Water is over the driveway to the tune of probably six feet and will go higher with the continuing rain, so we are in for a few days. Winter is here, it looks like. The leaves seem to be more colorful this year for some reason. Maybe because we haven’t had much frost. Hunting season is definitely in full swing. Haymakers are still working on getting the bales made and stored away for the winter feedings. After nearly a month without rain, we drove in from Oregon on Sunday evening and looking to the west, sure enough, the rain was back. Not much though, just enough to irritate the farmers who are still making hay. Thank you Mother Nature, we really are getting a summer. This weather is great, not too hot for too long and it even cools down at night. We had the pleasure of Steve and Linda Ramsay’s grandchildren coming over for a hot dog roast with s’mores and ice cream the other night after they went swimming in the Grays River near our house. How did you enjoy the thunder and lightning show last Friday night? It was great until we were awakened by our dogs barking and growling and raising a loud commotion. When we got up, we found an extra dog in the living room on our couch and he wasn’t about to leave with all the noise outside. It turned out to be our neighbor’s, Al and Nancy George's dog Butch, the brother of our older male dog. He doesn’t like these noisy nights, so went looking for a place to hide. I guess it’s time to get back to work and the real world after an absolutely wonderful week with family and folks we consider to be a part of our family. We had the pleasure of housing all six of our kids and their spouses or significant other, all of our grandchildren and a great-grandson. Altogether we had about 54 people and 12 dogs in our little tent city. The weather cleared up nicely after the first night of showers and the rest of the time it was beautiful. Where, oh where, is our summer? Rain, rain and more rain. I certainly hope it dries out soon so that the hay makers can get their fields mowed and baled. If the grass grows any higher we will be calling out the sheriff to go into the fields to find the tractors and their drivers. As least that’s how tall it is in our fields. Is anyone else being swarmed with hummingbirds? I have never seen so many at the same time. My feeders have to be refilled daily and sometimes there are two birds eating at the same time on each of the little flowers for a total of six birds on each feeder. They are amazing little creatures. My cats are just about crazy looking at them through the window, especially when a bird will hover on the other side of the glass where the cat’s staring.
