  • Floods, slides leave impact on Westend

    Trudy Fredrickson|Dec 17, 2015

It looks like this last storm has inconvenienced quite a few in our neck of the woods. I see that Covered Bridge Road has a pretty serious slide, with one lane collapsed and the other lane questionable near the Barr Road intersection and is closed. Also Shannon Road is closed due to a section of the road collapsing. Lots of other areas were seriously affected by the flooding and mud debris. We have about three inches of silt on our driveway after the 3 1/2 feet of water receded. Let’s hope this is about it, and we can have a calmer winter f...

  • First rain, then floods put damper on activities

    Trudy Fredrickson|Dec 10, 2015

Rain, rain, flood, flood. Here we go again. This has certainly been a wet beginning to the holiday season. We are once again house bound for a few days, not that I really mind as we are high and dry, well stocked and safe with our critters. It doesn’t look like the weather is going to get much better for a few days, so I hope other folks are prepared. There were trees down and even a wash out of one lane on Covered Bride Road near Barr Road on Tuesday. Be safe and check on your neighbors and their pets. News from Naselle: Here is the sports c...

  • Rain, flooding start out the week

    Trudy Fredrickson|Nov 19, 2015

Oh my goodness, what a weekend and wild beginning to the week. We have had more than 11 inches of rain in our rain gauge so far, flooded in since Friday afternoon with a huge lake full of ducks and sea gulls. The dogs are loving it, as the hunting for mice and other rodents is really easy. Our 8-month old, 80-pound, white, long-hair puppy is learning the ropes on how to pick the critters from the low branches of the trees and also how to come home covered in mud. We have been prepared for this rain event, and I hope everyone else was as well....

  • Fall activities continue with events to come

    Trudy Fredrickson|Oct 15, 2015

It was so nice to see a little rain again. The leaves are sure showing that fall is in the air even though the temperature doesn’t seem to be reflecting that. This has always been my favorite time of the year. News from Naselle Sports calendar for the Naselle Comet teams for the coming week include: Thursday, middle school football with Ocosta at Westport at 6 p.m., h...

  • Finn-Am committee to meet August 30

    Trudy Fredrickson|Aug 20, 2015

Only a little more than a week before the kids have to hit the books with the start of the new school year. The teachers are already doing some pre classroom work before the desks are filled with eager students and practice for football and volleyball has begun. With such a nice warm and dry summer there may be some apprehension for staying indoors for classes. Such is life and I hope everyone has a safe and successful school year. We live in such a close knit community, and have an award winning system and team teaching our kids so I’m w...

  • Volunteers invited for community center

    Trudy Fredrickson|Aug 13, 2015

About a quarter of an inch of rain fell here in Grays River over the weekend, hardly enough to wet the ground but it sure felt nice. It doesn’t look too hopeful for more coming anytime soon. Football practice and volleyball practice will begin on the 19th and the 24th respectively, prior to classes starting on August 31st. Teacher work days are scheduled for the 25th through the 27th. • Pig roast and camp out this Saturday

    Trudy Fredrickson|Jul 30, 2015

Even though we can use a little moisture on the ground, the rain predicted for last weekend was not much relief, except it did seem to cool the temperatures down a bit. The area wide burn ban is still in effect so please be aware of the rules and don’t burn. This is the big weekend in Rosburg for the annual Pig Roast/Potluck and Campout in Echo Meadows located at 4491 SR 4 West (the home of our host and hostess, Poul and Zenaida Toftemark). Everyone is welcome. Please bring a dish or two to share as there is usually a large crowd, your own c...

  • Dry weather brings need for fire safety

    Trudy Fredrickson|Jun 25, 2015

News from Naselle: With all the nice warm and dry weather we have been having, comes the risks as well. If you take your kids swimming, please remember to put life jackets on them, and when you are in an area where it is applicable be wary of drop offs, rip tides, etc. Better to be safe than sorry. Many of us know about the devastation fire can cause, so please follow the rules when a burn ban is on. Everything is tinder dry and it doesn’t take much to start a fire, so please be careful. The burn ban in Wahkiakum County will start on July 1...
