Last Saturday morning, the Wahkiakum Mules men’s wrestling team returned the District tournament Traveling Trophy to the announcer's stand. The team had been its steward since last February and was seeking to extend that period of possession. The Mules brought 12 men, ready for war, at 10 of the 14 weight classes. Twice a year the Mule wrestlers take on the weather and the roads to head east of the mountains and test the eastern competition. This year's first trip was to Pomeroy. The weekend started with mix and matches on Friday night verses various eastern schools. Then Saturday morning, the Pomeroy tournament started with schools from Idaho and Oregon also in attendance as well as some perennial powerhouses such as Kittitas.
