    There are only two days left until the 1st Annual Wahkiakum County Oktoberfest. Starting from 1 p.m. this Saturday, there will be live music, fantastic food and a well stocked beer garden. At 3 p.m. the Pumpkin Shot-Put competition will begin, promising to separate the men from the boys. Sausages, cider, cheesecake and more, with no entry charge, how can you afford to miss it?     Wahkiakum County’s 1st Annual Oktoberfest is almost upon us, promising to be a day of good food, excellent brews with live music and the first ever Pumpkin Shot-put contest. For those who plan to sample a wide selection of our frosty beverages, why not come prepared and take advantage of the fair campground.     It’s been a busy week down at the fairgrounds in preparation for this weekend’s Country Days. The grass has been cut and the flowers pruned so that all is ready for the Old Time Auction on Saturday at 2 p.m. Many generous donations have resulted in a fantastic range of goodies, so come and pick up a bargain.     This year the fairgrounds will play host to a wide range of events. The first post-fair event was a travelling circus which kicked off last Thursday.     One week to go and the fairgrounds are buzzing with activity. We’re all excited for this year’s 100th fair celebration and have been working flat out to make the fairgrounds shine. We have a lot in store and are happy to announce a new range of contests for all ages. 4-H/Open Youth Contests Largest Cabbage Contest--Cabbage is judged by weight.     I am proud to announce this year’s Wahkiakum County Fair Princesses are: Rosemary Patterson, Sara Niemela, Aimee Harrison, Abbey Buennagel and Nicole Hargrove. Working with coordinator Joy Niemela, this year’s princesses are hoping to raise a record breaking figure as it is our 100th fair celebration. Each princess will be selling season passes to the fair as well as trying to gain sponsorship from local businesses. The winning princess will receive a scholarship which can help change their lives. Whether it’s that lamp you never found a home for or those forgotten garage boxes, WSU, 4-H and the fair are looking for donations for the community auction scheduled for March 28.
