    Rick Nelson|May 31, 2018

With much of the initial preparations out of the way, painting should start this week on the Puget Island bridge. The Royal Bridge, Inc., crew has been stringing cables and attaching curtains and chain link fencing to prepare for painting. Once the curtains and screens are in place, they'll install sand blasting equipment and clean off the old paint all the way to the steel structure of the bridge. Traffic has been reduced to one lane to supply a work area for the contractor. The workers have in...

  • Summer programs start for Timberland Library

    Trudy Fredrickson|May 31, 2018

Another really busy week. Last Friday we celebrated my oldest son’s 50th birthday with lots of surprises for him. His two younger brothers met him on the golf course and he was totally dumbfounded. They hadn’t been together in two years. Another friend also arrived from Oregon to make it a foursome. In the meantime, his wife was decorating a warehouse with black and gold decor, a catered dinner and many more family and friends awaited his arrival. Such a fun day, plus I had five of my children to visit with all weekend. On Saturday, the whole f...

  • Town council approves plan for sight distance

    Rick Nelson|May 24, 2018

Sight distance may soon be improved for motorists turning on to SR 4 from Cathlamet's Main Street. Town of Cathlamet officials agreed Monday to take steps to trim trees blocking vision to the west of the intersection. The trees, a tall fir and some shorter cherries, are on private property but extend over fences into the highway right-of-way. At recent meetings of both the town council and board of county commissioners, citizens have complained that the limited visibility makes it dicey to enter the intersection with traffic coming at 50 miles...
