    To The Eagle: Regarding the letter to the Eagle (February 22, 2018) from Craig Brown suggesting that the most appropriate name for the building Wahkiakum Health and Human Services acquired from the Congregational UCC would be "Congregational Building." Calling it by this name, familiar to most of the people in Wahkiakum County, would make it more identifiable to those using it.   • Country Days celebrates the best of the region

    The Columbia River Country Days celebration gets underway on October 5 and 6. The beginning event on Friday is a Slow Moving Parade leaving the Elochoman Slough Marina at 2:30 p.m. and winding down Main Street in Cathlamet, across the bridge to the Two Islands Farm Market on Puget Island. A special treat at the market on Friday will be barbecued corn and hamburgers made from Puget Island beef.     Members and Friends of Extension met together Monday evening to review the Columbia River Country Days event held on October 3-4. The festivities raised approximately $5,800 to benefit the Wahkiakum Extension Service and the 4-H program for children and youth. The purpose of the Friends of Extension discussion was to decide the best way to use the funds earned, and to address the problem of the extension service being eliminated from the county budget by the cuts made by Wahkiakum County commissioners.     A Wahkiakum celebration to coincide with WSU Statewide Harvest Days is to happen on October 4. As a county wide historic view spotlighting rural America, the "Columbia River Country Days" event promises a broad range of interests centering on Cathlamet, Puget Island, Skamokawa, Grays River and beyond.
