The Mini Mules lost a heart breaker on October 15 for the League championship 3-0 to STS. The Mules controlled the game with their defense and strong running game but untimely turnovers with five fumbles and penalties proved to be costly. STS was limited to four first downs, two were from penalties and the other two came on the last drive of the game. Our defense gave up 20 yards all game until the last drive. The Wahkiakum Youth football team opened the season with a 20-8 win over Castle Rock Reds in Longview. We scored on the first play from scrimmage. Zach Brown hit tight end Nathan Dault on a play action pass that covered 50 yards. Nathan was able to run by the coverage and go into the end zone untouched. Parker Patching kicked a successful on-side kick which the mini Mules recovered. We then drove the ball another 45 yards to pay dirt. Central Youth Baseball 10 year old Allstars completed their season with an outstanding state tournament in Kelso. The boys finished in third place with wins over top seeded Kennewick teams. The team was made up of six Wahkiakum and five Longview kids ranging from ages eight to 10. Ashden Niemeyer was the lone eight year old on this team and batted in fourth position. Wahkiakum Youth football came away with another big win October 9 against a much larger team, 13 to 8. We struggled getting our offense on track so we only rushed for 138 total yards with Hank Ferguson carrying the load,18 carries for 117 yards one touchdown and the extra point run. Zach Brown scored the other one following his blockers on a quarterback sweep for 10 yards early in the second quarter.
