HALF AND HALF--We had quite a variety of weather at the end of last week, as it was absolutely gorgeous last Friday, with t-shirt type weather and absolutely horrible on Saturday, which brought out the boots and umbrellas! Sunday morning wound up being pretty dry and decent but by afternoon, it was back to clouds and drizzle, so it was one of those half and half days. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Nov. 10-16 are Ray Lindsey, Jonnie Knowles, Jeff Twiet, Jeff Hedges, Shannon Moore, Mark Helms, Ashley N. Helms, Pat Ohrberg, Ty...
NOT TOO BAD--I am so glad we were able to have a really nice couple of days at the end of last week, as Friday was gorgeous and a good deal of Saturday was nice as well. This gave a nice break from the rain, that we needed, and which had our lawns perking right up, so I wasn't surprised when I heard several lawn mowers running as everybody was trying to get a handle on those uneven lawns and get them looking nice and neat before it was time to put away that lawn mower for the winter. With rain returning by Sunday morning, it was almost a good...
NOT TOO BAD--Last weekend wasn't too bad, as while we had some rain, we also had some dry times, along with some sunshine, so it was certainly better than the weekend before! We even saw the "field lakes" going down at last, so that's always a welcome sight. However, by the time you read this, we are supposedly going back to a rainy streak, so I hope you enjoyed whatever dry time we had, as it looks like the Fall weather, which means, "falling rain," is here! SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Oct. 27-Nov. 2 are Maury Mooers, Hoby...
PLENTY NASTY--While some folks were complaining about the fact that the "big one" didn't hit us this past Saturday, there were plenty of folks, like me, that felt like our prayers had been answered when another low formed to the west of the "big eye" and drew enough power from it, that those of us in our area and most up north, did not experience too much damage. There were exceptions of course, like down on the Oregon coast where a tornado hit a couple of towns, and were truly devastated, so that was pretty horrific. For all those folks along...
MIXED BAG--Last weekend was a mix of weather, as we had some heavy rain at times, then lighter showers and even some gloomy but yet, dry spells, so we hope you were able to get out during one of those dry times to do those outdoor chores which seem never ending, even during the Fall! The week ahead looks to be a mixture too, but then, afterall, it is October, so we can't expect it to be super nice all the time. As I write this however, the sun is out after a very foggy morning, so we'll enjoy the sun's rays while we can! HURRICANE--Hurricane...
WEEKEND--We ended last week with a gorgeous day on Friday, with temperatures just the way I like them, with a bit of crispness in the air but lots of sunshine. However, the rains did appear on Saturday and some on Sunday, which came with mixed reviews, as some were ready for the rain, the Fall foods, a roaring fire and the great book reading weather, while some of us would have liked just a little more sunshine in order to enjoy the first weekend in October and its activities. It looks like a mixed bag for the week, so keep those umbrellas...
GREAT START--We couldn't have ended the weekend any nicer, or started this work week any better either, as the skies were blue, the sun was shining and the evening hours were perfect for being outside around the BBQ and enjoying a wonderful time with friends. It also made for great weather for those who needed to get those gutters cleaned, mow the lawn or any other array of "get ready for the rainy season" chores! I'm guessing that in spite of the work that needed to be done, all Seahawk football fans took some time off to watch them take on...
NICE START--After a bit of wetness to end last week, I was nicely surprised to see mostly sunny skies on Sunday to begin this week on a drier note. Some of the guys may not have been too happy about it, as it might have meant they had to give up some TV football time to go and mow that lawn one more time, but hopefully there was plenty of time left to watch their favorite teams or take in a little NASCAR! Of course, that was daytime hours, as Sunday evening wound up good and wet around West Valley, and depending on where you were, so was part...
CHANGED--We had some good weather and some wet weather Labor Day weekend and it sure depended on where you were as to just what you got. While we had some downpours here in West Valley and put on our rain jackets and sweatshirts to head to Cathlamet, when we got there, it was sunny and warm and people were walking around in t-shirts, short pants and tank tops, so a big difference in just a few miles! Some who traveled to the coast saw some brief cloudiness and then nothing but sunshine later on, while other areas were cold and socked in all...
SURPRISE--We started off last Saturday pretty wet here in West Valley, which was a bit of a surprise to me, as I had heard Astoria might get some drizzle but didn't think it would come inland quite so much, but hey, we'll take all the moisture we can get, and I didn't have to water the outside plants! For those not expecting any rain at all and who left windows down or other things outside, well, it was not a welcome sight. Considering we had some super hot days last week, this cooler batch of weather suits me just fine; might even be feeling...
PLENTY WARM--If you are one of those who love the heat, you sure got it last week and weekend! Wow, way too toasty for me! We joke about it "always raining" at least one day of the Wahkiakum County Fair, but that certainly didn't happen this time, as those drips you felt weren't from the sky but more than likely falling from your forehead! Luckily, a cool down showed up Saturday evening and we began this week with some nice cloud cover on Sunday morning and even some wetness on Monday morning before the sun returned by early afternoon. Cooler...
TOASTY TIMES--Last Friday was a super hot day around here with temperatures still plenty warm after dark, which doesn't happen too often, so I was very happy to be inside enjoying some air conditioning. Temperatures cooled down a bit as this week began but according to the weather folks, it's supposed to get good and hot again by fair time. If this does indeed happen, please take extra care to keep yourself and your pets cool and hydrated. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Aug. 18-24 are Jessica Schiek, Becky Ledtke, Riley Emlen-Pe...
DRIPPY START--As this week began, we had some light rain, and while my lawn and bushes were thankful, I'm guessing all those that were camping weren't so happy. Those with hay down, were definitely not happy! On the bright side, this moisture keeps our fire danger level on the low side in comparison to half the western states which are burning up, so while it seems like summer isn't acting like summer right now, maybe we just need to count our blessings. While it might not be perfect, it beats fire and flooding and severe drought by a long...
SUNNY BEGINNING--The temperatures here haven't been super hot during this last week of July, which is fine by me, but for those beach and heat lovers, well, it's been sort of disappointing, as we had hotter days in the spring time! As this work week begins, we not only saw a little less sun and cooler temperatures, but we also saw a new month show up! You know what that means don't you? Well, it means everyone with kids will be frantically getting those vacation days figured in their schedule before the kids have to go back to school and fall...
GETTING WARMER--We ended last week with a few showers and some cloudiness, but that was ok, as those extra high temperatures don't thrill me much anyway. However, for all those "want it hot" folks, Sunday began with clear blue skies and warm sunshine right off the bat, so I'm guessing they were mighty happy! If the forecast holds, it looks like Summer is returning this week, so keep lathered up with sun screen and enjoy! Sadly, another child was left in a car in the heat this past week and she is struggling to survive as temperatures rose to...
COOLER--This week began with some clouds but no rain, and Monday wound up much nicer than they said it was going to be as we even managed to get the lawn mowed before noon when the heavier cloud cover came in! By the time you read this, we're supposed to be warming up a little more so here's to some more summer weather coming our way for those sun lovers or for those who need some dry days to get that hay in, get the house painted, get the new roof on and of course, play at the beach in the sunshine! SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays fr...
OFF & ON HOLIDAY--Our Fourth of July holiday started out pretty nice for the first couple of days, but we woke up to rain here in West Valley on both Sunday and Monday. If you happen to be one of these people who are experiencing low water levels in your creek or well, I'm guessing you were pretty happy to see some rain fall, but that little bit probably won't do you much good, but it does take down the fire danger a bit, and with massive fires in some areas, the rain is a good thing. I hear we are to get some real rain by the end of the week...
WARM BEGINNING--As this week begins, it's a toasty Sunday; upper 80s in West Valley and I've heard other areas are a little hotter than that, but that's plenty for me. I'm sure those that got soaked last Thursday and Friday are glad to see the sun arrive once again, as it's tough to start a big garage and yard sale when it's super soggy out there. However, it's supposed to be dry all week, and possibly all through the holiday weekend so be sure to take all the heat precautions. However, with the cloudiness here on Monday and Tuesday mornings,...
SUPER NICE--We couldn't have asked for a nicer Father's Day with the sun shining and temperatures in the mid-70's, along with a little breeze, so that was great for all those who held barbecues or traveled here or there to treat Dad out on his special day! I have to admit, if you were working in the yard on the sunny side of your house, you might have felt it was a bit too warm. I was thinking it was more like the mid-80s when I was out there. The first day of Summer was Monday and while it began a little cloudy, it too was a great day, so for...
BIG DIFFERENCE--Last Saturday was certainly a big change from the previous one, as instead of trying to keep out of the blazing sun and shading ourselves with our umbrellas, like we had to do at the car show, we were raising those umbrellas to keep from getting soaked from some very heavy downpours! Of course, we did have some breaks, which were nice, but all in all, it was a pretty soggy day here in West Valley. However, just down the road, or in Cathlamet, the sun was shining and it was pretty doggone nice so it really depended on where you...
PLENTY WARM!--All those heat lovers must have been totally pumped about the heat wave we had last weekend, and even the days prior to and after that, as it was plenty hot, that's for sure! Anytime temps are in the upper 90s at the beginning of June for several days in Skamokawa, with no wind and temperatures still around 70 in the latter part of the evening, well, that's really rare; and uncomfortable! I hear we are supposed to cool down by the time you read this and we should even see some rain, so I know my lawn is going to enjoy that, and...
MIXED BAG--This week started out a bit damp here in West Valley and some other places, but later on in the day it got real nice. By now, you should have been enjoying a lot more sun, but we also know what that means: stupid people doing stupid things. Heads up people, do not leave your children or your animals in your vehicle! It's amazing that anyone would allow a child to be alone in a rig anyway, but on hot days, it's deadly and totally unforgivable. Animals are best left at home on these warm days. So if you truly love them please keep...
OFF AND ON--Last weekend wasn't a complete bust, as it seemed Portland got hammered with rain, while we stayed cloudy with only a few spinkles on Saturday. Sunday was pretty wet here in between sun breaks, so I'm glad the lawn got mowed while it was dry, and we could just let nature water the plants. I was expecting some rain for Monday and while some folks had some sprinkles, I was out doing yardwork and getting mighty toasty in the sun, at least during the first part of the day. The forecast looks like it will be another mixed bag of weather...
There are people who say that there's "nothing to do " in Skamokawa (Skuh-MOCK-away) and while at first glance at this tiny town, you may believe that's true. However, as they say, "looks can be deceiving" and that is true about this small town as well. While there are no massive shopping malls or casinos here, the community calendar that is put out by the Wahkiakum County Chamber of Commerce, shows a full schedule of events for the county, and many of them take place right here in Skamokawa, the little town located along Ocean Beach Highway...
WET BEGINNING--As this week began, it was a bit on the damp and cool side, which was a far cry from the weather we ended with last week, as it was dry and up in the upper 80s. Oh well, all the greenery got a drink and at least it wasn't pouring down rain or causing any major problems, unlike some parts of the country that were dealing with massive tornadoes, flooding and snowfall. With this second half of May well underway, we wonder if we'll stay unseasonably warm and dry or will be dropping back down in temperatures so we can replenish the...
