    Darrell Alexander|Oct 25, 2018

The Rosburg Store grand opening last Friday was more than the opening of a store. One had to be there to have the experience that was more like a family reunion. Everyone gathered there had the look of excitement on their faces like little children ready to open their Christmas presents. The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce, represented by Director Meg Morris, Coordinator Megan Kuhl, and Treasurer Matt Kuhl, sponsored the event. Director Meg Morris presented the ribbon and scissors to Roni Miller...

  • KM exercise was more than a house fire

    Darrell Alexander|May 10, 2018

The fire fighter training exercise last Thursday night was more than just a control burn of a dilapidated old county owned house; it was a night of inspiration as more than 30 volunteer fire fighters converged on the KM to burn down this historical landmark. It may not be a landmark to most; however, it was of particular interest to many who were there. Grays river resident Dan Anderson was there to watch his son-in-law; Robert Maki and his grandson Kevin Maki work on the fire. Dan and his...

Wahkiakum Wohbot Wohundup robotics tournament was hosted by Wahkiakum School District and Wahkiakum 4-H last Thursday at Wahkiakum High School. There were so many robots, or "bots" as the kids call them, that there was not enough room to show all of them. A few were shared to give an approximate idea of the variety of styles and workmanship that went into constructing these wonderful Wohbots. The entrants were students from second through 12th grades from Cathlamet and high school students from...

On November 14 at 7:30 in the morning, Cathlamet resident Mike Paulsen was driving one of the Jerry DeBriae Logging trucks while towing a 60-ton log shuttle. Just as he crossed the Grays River Bridge and rounded a curve, the trailer hitch broke and caused the log shuttle to careen off the trailer and turn upside down at the bottom of the slope below SR 4. • Thomas Middle School hosts chess tournament

    Darrell Alexander|Nov 9, 2017

On Saturday, November 4th, the chess tournament held at the John Thomas Middle School was titled the First Cathlamet Open. I was recently informed by Rick Nelson, the publisher of The Wahkiakum County Eagle, that he had played in a tournament in Cathlamet back in the late 1960's. So Saturday's was not the first tournament, yet it did not make a difference to the entrants. Chess is the game of kings and the king of games. The game of chess goes back nearly fifteen centuries originating in...
