Sarah Shi finished second in the 15 person event with a 48, Zach Johnston third with a 49 and Bryce Good fourth with a 51. Also scoring for Mules were Tyler St. Onge 52, Elijah Doiron 61 and Connor Thompson 73. Sarah struck the ball well but putted the medalist honors away with a three and four putt late in the round losing to Christopher You of North Beach 45. Next...
The Wahkiakum Mule golf team lost a heartbreaker 208-207 to Adna on Monday but beat Napavine at Neuwakum Valley Golf Course moving their intra-conference record to 19-8. Mules Bryce Good shot 46 and Sarah Shi 47 as they finished second and third in the 13 player event and both had great ball striking days. Bryce four-putted the last green, and Sarah chipped over three greens from short range to log three double bogeys, letting Adna's Logan Boone capture medalist honors with a 44. Tyler St. Onge shot 55, Zach Johnston 60, Connor Thompson 62 and...
The young Wahkiakum Mule golf team shot 192 to up their intra-conference head to head record to 14-5, led by Junior Sarah Shi's medalist round of 43. Freshman Zach Johnston improved for the third match in a row and tied for second with a 44. It's great when two of your four scores finish first and second in a 22 player event. The Mules' aggregate score of the four best scores combined, improved again with the addition of sophomore Bryce Good's 48 and 8th grader Elijah Doiron's 57. Also posting scores for the Mules were eighth graders Tyler St....
The Wahkiakum Mule golf team posted the season's best score, 197, beating Ilwaco, 200, for the first time in school history. The Mules also secured head to head wins versus Adna, 213, and Napavine, incomplete, to raise their season record to 10-5. Eighth grader Tyler St. Onge shot a personal best 48 to tie Sarah Shi for fourth best out of the 19 player field. Also shooting a personal best was freshman Zach Johnston, 49. Sophomore Bryce Good quadruple bogeyed the first hole to shoot 52. Eighth graders Gage Horman and Elijah Doiron shot 61 and...
The Wahkiakum Mule golf team notched their first victories of the 2016 season Monday at home at Skyline Golf Course, scoring 211 to Raymond's 233 while South Bend and Willapa Valley both came in with incomplete's (which means they didn't have enough players to complete a four person match). Junior Sarah Shi and sophomore Bryce Good led the Mules, both tying for second shooting a 47. Eighth graders Tyler St. Onge 52 and Gage Horman 64 completed the four person scorecard. Tyson Johnson from South...
Wahkiakum Mule golfer Elliot Haney struck the ball very well on the second day at the WIAA State Golf Championship in Richland at Columbia Pointe Golf Course. Just like most of the eight kids from the southwest district, he never could capitalize on the greens. With the exception of the state champion Kenneth Sheldon of Ilwaco, 72/72, 144, the entire southwest district struggled. Elliot shot 85/86 to finish 18th. The only other southwest district entrant to finish in the top 10 was Willapa Valley's Nicholas Betrozoff who finished eighth, 83/78....
Senior Elliot Haney was playing in his last District Championship but it wasn't the same caliber competitors he played against last year where he finished third with a 36-hole score of 174. The addition of Ilwaco and Life Christian high schools has strengthened the district to the point of where this season the cut of top eight going to state was 172, quite a difference. After day one Elliot's 18-hole score of 84 looked secure in sixth place of the 30 man field while freshman Bryce Good missed the two day cut, shooting a 114. Day two turned...
Senior golfer Elliot Haney had a one stroke lead after six holes when his drive on the par five caught a tree and landed out of bounds 24 inches from safety. That two stroke penalty cost him medalist honors as he finished tied for second with a 42, losing to Kenneth Sheldon 41. Mule freshman Bryce Good shot 51 and finished sixth out of the 14 players including Ilwaco and North Beach High Schools. The Wahkiakum Mules play in the District Championship (where eight players will qualify for State)...
After a three hour drive to Ocean Shores on Monday, the weather got ugly just as we got out of the car. Intermittent rain and a 25 mph wind in our face for the first three holes seemed to affect everyone except Elliot Haney of Wahkiakum and Taylor Schisler of Ilwaco. They were the only two that kept their golf balls on the course and shared the lead by three strokes starting the 4th hole which also was dead into the wind. That's where a series of bad breaks ruined the Mule senior's round. A tree branch caught his drive, leaving a bad lie inches...
With our number one senior golfer Elliot Haney visiting Carnegie Mellon University, Wahkiakum Mule freshman Bryce Good had to fly solo April 23 after a 3-hour drive through a driving rainstorm on the way to Ocean Shores. Bryce hit the ball well enough to finish second in the 10-man match losing by three with a 52. Bryce lipped out four putts or he might have captured his first medalist title. On April 20, Haney had déjà vu from the previous match. He hit more fairways than the competition but came away with a fifth place 46 in the five-team m...
Wahkiakum Mule golfers hosted a meet April 16 at Skyline Golf Course. Senior Elliot Haney hit seven out of nine fairways but had trouble capitalizing those good tee shots and shot 46 to claim medalist honors by 7 strokes. Freshman Bryce Good tied for third. After shooting 42 his last match at Skyline Golf Course, he came in with a frustrated score of 61. Bryce is a fast player and the slow pace of play seemed to effect his rhythm. The Mules traveled to Raymond on Monday to play the Willapa...
Wahkiakum High School senior Elliot Haney and freshman Bryce Good finished first and second, shooting 39 and 42, in the April 2nd golf match versus Adna at Skyline Golf Course. Neither rain nor shine, and they had both, could stop the two Mules from improving five and 12 strokes, respectively, since their last outing on the road. Nothing a little home cooking couldn't fix. The Pirates shot a four-man total 197. Next match is at home after spring break on April 16....
On March 26, the Wahkiakum Mule golf team visited the former 1A links powerhouse Ilwaco Fishermen at Surfside Golf Course in Ocean Park. The calm weather, manicured golf course and flat surface didn't result in our best efforts. Senior Elliot Haney knew he was in for a long day when his first drive sailed out of bounds. Not having his best stuff, Elliot ground out a third place finish 44 in the three-team match. In team scores, Ilwaco finished with 193 and North Beach 228. The Mules still do not have enough eligible players to post a team...
The Wahkiakum Mule golf team opened their 2015 season last week short handed but made the most of it. Senior Elliot Haney shot a 38 to tie Ilwaco's Kenneth Sheldon for medalist in a match with former 1A power house golf programs Life Christian Academy, 167 team score, and Ilwaco, 178. Haney led by one stroke going into the last hole but blew a nine iron over the green from 145 yards, winding up with an unlikely bogey that resulted in the draw. Freshman Bryce Good opened his career with a drive right down the middle, showing he can swing it...
The WahkiakumMule golf team avenged a recent loss to Willapa Valley with a 177 to 189 victory at home, Skyline Golf Course, last Thursday. The Mules also beat Adna 207, Raymond, who played incomplete, and South Bend, incomplete, moving their intra-team season record to 19-4. The Mules record against the Willapa Valley Vikings is 3-2, and they will play each other the last match of the season at Willapa Harbor GC. Zach Calvert shot a personal best and captured medalist honors with a 38 in the 24-man field. Austin Good, 41, finished second;...
