    This year’s 4-H and FFA Market Sale at the Wahkiakum County Fair brought local businesses, families and other supporters to bid top prices for 4-H youths’ swine, poultry, canned goods and craft items. Brian McClain, auctioneer and owner of McClain Auctions, auctioned 11 animals and 15 still life items, including canned goods and crafts. FFA youth, Dylan Hansen, sold his 236-pound barrow for $725 to Walter Deege of Deege Insurance in Cathlamet. Hansen is also a member of the 4-H Afterschool Club.     Columbia River Country Days, October 2 and 3, will feature all things Wahkiakum Grown, including farm tours and a gourmet menu of local courses served on the Grays River Covered Bridge. Friday kicks off with a Slow Moving Parade, led by Rob Stockhouse and his league of friends driving tractors, classic trucks and all things slow moving. The parade will travel through downtown Cathlamet at 3 p.m. and end at the Two Islands Farm Market.     WSU Extension celebrates a rich history in Wahkiakum County this weekend with Columbia River Country Days. A brief look at that history shows a record of innovativeness in Wahkiakum County; such as establishing the first Extension agent west of the Mississippi in 1912 and the first home economics 4-H club in the country in Seal River in 1914.     This year brings the 100th year of the County Fair in Wahkiakum County, and with it a long tradition of volunteerism and county-wide collaboration.
