  • The trials of teaching a working dog

    Caroline Jennings, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 7, 2009

“Don’t they make dogs that do this?!” It was a war cry born of complete frustration during the many times that Loren and I ended up chasing our livestock around a field/up a road/out of the neighbor’s vegetable patch. And of course there are dogs for that very purpose, and so we got ourselves one. Piper, a red and white border collie, bounded into our humble abode last May, bringing with her the first of much mud, poo, and bits of half eaten, unidentifiable organic matter. Since then, she has stopped hurtling around for about half a second....

  • Life on the farm and adventures with food

    Caroline Jennings, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 17, 2008

This year, Loren and I have made a concerted effort to combat rising food prices by raising our own vegetables to go along with the meat we already raise here on the farm and then preserving them for the leaner months. Caroline Jennings, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 3, 2007

Wahkiakum PUD continued its discussion Tuesday of the proposed expansion of the Western Wahkiakum water system to the Oneida and Salme neighborhoods. The board discussed funding the project and the possibility of using a $216,000 grant to pay for half of the work, with a 45 percent match of $180,000 from the PUD and the remaining amount split between those who would benefit from the new water system. PUD Commissioner Robert Jungers requested a more concrete basis for beginning the work necessary to get the project in motion. Salme Hill...
