It’s Easter Bingo Time! The fair board would like to thank Foster Farms and Hancock Forest Management for their generous donations to this Wahkiakum County Fair fund raiser. We have lots of wonderful raffle prizes donated by local businesses too, I will have their names in my next column, as we are still collecting prizes for the bingo at this time. Easter Bingo is tomorrow (Friday), 6:30 p.m. at the J.A. Wendt multi-purpose room. It’s only March, yet it’s time to start crafting, sewing and creating the exhibits that we enjoy during our fair. If you put your special fair items together throughout the next months, you will have more items to exhibit and not feel so rushed when August arrives. If you are new to our county, entering items in the fair is easy, doesn’t cost money, and it’s a great place to showcase your talents. This year we would like to have more sewn items in the Open Adult exhibits to display. If you are a talented seamstress we look forward to filling...

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board takes great pleasure in announcing we will be dedicating our 102nd Fair to Nancy Corbin. She has been notified and is thrilled. She is looking forward to spending time at the fair and visiting with her friends. There will be a write-up in the fair book about Nancy and her many years of volunteering and participating at our fair. Congratulations, Nancy! Lori Twiet is working on the additions and corrections for our 2010 fair book. She is volunteering her time, and we on the fair board feel fortunate to have her ta...

Improvements are starting to go from the planning stage to the actual project in motion stage at our fairgrounds. Neil Beerbower is chairman of the Fair Boards Arena Committee. His first big project this year is to get rid of the standing water by the front of the arena. County Building and Planning Manager Chuck Beyer and Neil have been consulting back and forth to finalize the project plan. Last weekend Neil and his son Jeff used a backhoe to start digging through rocks and dirt to make a ditch. They will be installing pipe into the ditch...

This month we welcome three local people to serve on the Wahkiakum County Fair Board. New board member Debbie Twiet grew up in Skamokawa. She is a skilled carpenter and her knowledge of that trade will be very useful, as we have two buildings to plan and build. Welcome Debbie! New board member Jean Beerbower has been the Exotic Animal and Pocket Pet Superintendent at our fair for 12 years. Jean already has many volunteer hours in at the fairgrounds weeding, cleaning and planning. Welcome Jean! New alternate board member Cheryl Backman has been...

Last week-end was the Fair Board's third annual Valentine Dinner. We would like to say “Thank-You” to the many people that attended, and to the volunteers of our community that helped put this fund raiser together. To Commissioner Blair Brady a special thank you for all the hours that you volunteered! The site of our dinner was the Skamokawa Grange and it was decorated top to bottom and front to back with Valentine’s day décor. Kathleen Peterson charmed everyone with her piano playing during the dinner. Then Rick Nelson stepped on stage and pr...
